The Bridge Podcast became possible when I wrote and submitted a grant proposal to the University of Toronto's I.DE.A.S Committee in November 2024.
Once the proposal was accepted in early January (with less funding than initially requested... mention this in audio), it meant I got the green light to execute my vision for this project.
The first order of business was finding a cost-effective location that could accommodate the full production setup I had planned for the podcast. This led me to CIUT.FM.
The community radio station agreed to collaborate, provide a space with audio equipment, and allow me to bring in the whole production setup, quickly taking over the room.
At this point, I started looking for guests and brought in a technical producer to help with production and help manage all the recording equipment whilst I was hosting the episode.
Together, we finalised backdrops, set decorations, lighting, and episode structure and format.
The four episodes of the podcasts were recorded in two filming blocks, each featuring a guest over the age of seventy, with a different background.
The goal of the podcast was to listen to the guests' stories and advice for the younger generation, and act as a bridge between two groups that do not get a chance to connect as often.
In addition to what I learnt from my conversations with each guest, this was the first major project I produced, which allowed me to learn an incredible amount about time & cost efficiency and management, guest outreach, equipment needs, and above all else,...
...making sure to see the project through from ideation and pre-production to post-production and release, no matter the obstacles faced along the way.
